To support rural children’s educational growth, KAPSOM held a charitable event titled “Sunshine Forward, Green Dreams Set Sail” on August 15, 2024, providing Xiangyang Primary School with projectors, computers, sports equipment, and stationery to enhance the school’s educational facilities and improve students’ learning experiences and quality.
Event Overview
Xiangyang Primary School is located in Dongdian Township, Sui County, Shangqiu City, Henan Province. The school currently accommodates six grades across six classes, with a total of 55 students and 10 teachers. Since the summer of 2014, the school has been conducting summer interest classes for college students, continuing this initiative for 11 consecutive years. The “Big Hands Holding Small Hands” companion education program effectively addresses the challenge of managing student education during the summer when students are on vacation but parents are not. This program has introduced a new learning model for the summer lives of left-behind children in rural areas.
Through our preliminary research, we discovered that Xiangyang Primary School’s teaching facilities were in urgent need of improvement. To address this, at the conclusion of the 2024 summer college student teaching activities, we purchased multimedia equipment such as projectors and computers, along with sports equipment, for the school. Additionally, in collaboration with the school, we visited and provided support to three extremely impoverished families. We also prepared eco-friendly panda-themed stationery gift bags for 150 children from nearby villages who participated in the interest classes and joined the children in a fun sports day, bringing their enriching summer learning experience to a joyful close.
Donation Ceremony
At the start of the event, Principal Wu delivered a keynote speech titled “Everyone for Me, I for Everyone.” He highlighted the importance of gratitude and mutual support, encouraging the children to appreciate the help they receive and to actively pass on this kindness to others.
Following his speech, a representative from KAPSOM delivered an inspiring address titled “Live Towards the Sun and Grow in Adversity.” In her speech, the representative acknowledged that life is full of challenges, but emphasized that as long as there is light in one’s heart, it is possible to find a way forward even in difficult times. She encouraged the children not only to admire the successes of others but also to believe in the transformative power of their own efforts and perseverance.
Fun Sports Day
At the fun sports meeting, we thoughtfully organized a variety of activities to ensure that as many children as possible could enjoy the excitement and challenges. The basketball pass challenge tested the children’s teamwork and coordination skills while allowing them to experience the joy of sports through interaction. The musical statue game combined music with movement, creating a lively atmosphere that stimulated the children’s energy and creativity. The green sowing activity provided the children with hands-on experience in environmental protection, enhancing their awareness of sustainability. These engaging activities not only brought joy and memorable moments to the children but also contributed to the development of their overall skills through playful learning.
On-Site Visits: Spreading the Warmth and Light
With the assistance of the school, we conducted visits to several economically disadvantaged families to gain a detailed understanding of their living conditions and provide substantial help and support. Given the economic challenges these families face, we not only offered essential material aid but also extended sincere care and encouragement. This visit aimed to convey our warmth and commitment to bringing hope and support to these families.
The “Sunshine Forward, Green Dreams Set Sail” charity event concluded successfully amidst the cheers of the children. This event not only brought joy and support to Xiangyang Primary School but also sowed seeds of love and hope in this vibrant community. Through a variety of engaging activities and practical aid, we aimed to inspire and uplift the children, leaving them with cherished memories and a positive impact.
