Green Fertilizers: A Key Pathway to Food Security and Sustainable Development

Professor Zhang and his team visited KAPSOM to conduct in-depth discussions on the application of green ammonia in the field of sustainable fertilizers. With the global population growing and food demand expected to increase by at least 50% by 2050, the role of fertilizers has become increasingly critical. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), fertilizers contribute 40% to 60% of the yield increase in crop production. Ammonia, as a key raw material for fertilizer production, is widely used in the manufacturing of nitrogen fertilizers, compound fertilizers, and other chemical fertilizers. However, the fertilizer industry faces challenges such as raw material price volatility and the long-term reliance on production models dependent on natural gas, phosphate rock, and potash, further exacerbating cost uncertainties.

global energy challenges
At the same time, the excessive use of traditional fertilizers has led to environmental issues such as soil degradation, water pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. The development and promotion of green fertilizers have become imperative. By adopting sustainable solutions based on green ammonia, we can reduce dependence on fossil fuels in production, alleviate environmental pressures, and provide strong support for agricultural modernization and food security. This represents a crucial direction for achieving a balance between economic and ecological development.

energy security

KAPSOM is committed to driving the development of green ammonia and its application in relevant industries, actively addressing the dual challenges of food security and environmental sustainability. In the future, our company will continue to optimize the production process of green ammonia, reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption, and actively expand its application scenarios in the Power-to-X field. We aim to collaborate with more outstanding enterprises to build an eco-friendly future together. Moreover, we will further strengthen our cooperation with universities, deepening industry-academia partnerships to jointly advance green ammonia technology research and development.
